Parent + 1

Dynamite introduces a new spin on Parent Coaching—an entire fitness program designed for families! Our Parent (for ages 18+) & Child (for ages 1+) program features a suite of classes that enable families to enjoy gymnastics-oriented activity together.

In Parent Coaching, parents become their children's own personal coach and classmate! With our Sparklers (ages 1-5) and Pinwheels (ages 5-9) classes, parents and children learn gymnastics together. The physical, mental, and behavioral benefits of gymnastics is unquestioned; we provide an atmosphere in which parents are trained to teach beginning to intermediate gymnastics. For the younger gymnasts, instruction takes place on specially-designed preschool equipment, while Pinwheels will use full-size equipment, just like all other classes within their age group.

As coaches, parents will learn how to safely and properly "spot" their children through a variety of gymnastics moves. Equipped with spotting skills and a basic understanding of gymnastics, parents will be able to assist their children on the playground, in the gym, at home, and anywhere jumping, climbing, swinging, or tumbling is possible. As classmates, Pinwheel parents will love having fun with their kids!

Courses

Sparklers

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center

$90.00

Sparklers classes are designed to engage preschool children ages 1 to 5. Younger children are inspired by observing and imitating their older classmates, while older children learn to be leaders and practice kindness and empathy. There are different levels of difficulty within each class so that every child, regardless of age or ability, is challenged consistently. With parent involvement in instruction, it's easier to structure the class so that every child can advance in areas of strength and/or continue practicing skills that need more attention. This program offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on experience in which parent/child synergy works at its best. Children advance quickly with their parent's help and encouragement, meanwhile teaching their parents the best methods of helping and working with them. Parents will be amazed at how quickly their children will progress in gymnastics with this guided, one-on-one teaching experience!

FamFit

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center

$110.00

FamFit is our popular Gymnastics Fitness (GymFit) class, family style. FamFit incorporates the pre-school apparatus as well, to tailor the curriculum for students of all ages.

Since the different gymnastics disciplines are usually taught only on specific apparatus, Gymnastics Fusion enables students to experience everything gymnastics has to offer. Family Gymnastics Fusion (FamFusion) instructors teach Artistic, TNT, and Agility to students of all ages. Parents and children alike will be thrilled to jump, balance, swing, climb, and tumble—together!

Preschool

Dynamite is a great place for your child to embark on a lifetime of physical fitness! Our trained preschool instructors work with children ages one to five on age-appropriate gymnastics skills which prepare youngsters for so much more than gymnastics. Children participating in class without parents will develop a sense of independence as they increase physical strength and coordination, improve gross motor and motor planning, and become aware of spatial and perceptual concepts through self-expression. Some additional benefits of our weekly preschool classes include:

  • Developing pride through accomplishments
  • Accepting new places
  • Sharing and taking turns
  • Socializing at early ages

We help preschool children develop physical and social skills that will help them as they transition into kindergarten. Through gymnastics, children develop gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and balance. Beyond physical skills, gymnastics teaches children how to focus, take turns, be patient, follow directions, and respect figures of authority. Children enrolled in Dynamite's Preschool program begin a love for learning in a fun and exciting way, developing the social skills necessary to excel in an academic environment. Our preschool age groups overlap so that parents can choose the program that best matches the maturity and attentiveness of their child.

Poppers

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center

$90.00

In each 45-minute Poppers class, students learn on specially designed pre-school equipment, which includes balance beam, bars, trampoline, rope, and floor exercise. Each week, a new lesson plan teaches progressive, core gymnastics skills while incorporating an educational "Theme of the Week," such as Space Exploration, to retain interest. In this imaginative environment, each student begins to develop a foundation for both gymnastics and participation in other sports by increasing balance, strength, and flexibility. Children also learn how to be patient, follow directions, and interact positively with the instructor and other students.

Many parents question if their child will thrive in Poppers or be more successful in our Parent Coaching/Sparklers class. Since Dynamite classes allow up to six gymnasts per instructor, all students must possess the ability to learn independently. Enrollment in Poppers is based on four developmental requirements:

  1. PHYSICAL: Is the child able to perform the circuits without assistance? (i.e., walk across beams, climb over obstacles)
  2. BEHAVIORAL: Can the child control overly impulsive behavior, stay with the class, and demonstrate a basic understanding of the class curriculum?
  3. EMOTIONAL: Is the child emotionally ready to separate fully from a parent or caregiver for the duration of the class?
  4. COGNITIVE: Is the child able to listen to instructions and follow directions?

Students who run away from the class or require constant assistance create a safety hazard as they prevent the instructor from supervising the other children. In the best interests of all participants in a Poppers class, any child unable to meet all of these requirements must continue instruction accompanied by a Parent Coach until more mature.

All of our instructors provide an enjoyable, optimal learning experience to young gymnasts. Our goal is to find the best class for every child! Please feel free to contact us for assistance in choosing a class. For the benefit of all students, we do reserve the right to move gymnasts to the most appropriate class if necessary.

Courses

Adult Gymnastics

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center

$120.00

It's never too late to reap the benefits that gymnastics training can provide! Dynamite's adult classes improve overall fitness, core strength, flexibility and sports-specific strength - all while learning a variety of gymnastics skills. Adult gymnastics classes are gaining popularity in New York and California—and are now available in the metropolitan D.C. area at Dynamite Gymnastics Center.

Our gymnastics class invites adults to improve flexibility and strength, and learn new skills. After warm-up, students break into groups to work on specific skills on a wide range of equipment. Unlike regular classes where the instructor dictates the class structure, students are invited to practice what they want. Generally, students spend time on trampoline, beam, and bars, and work on tumbling into the pit or on the Tumbletrak. The class instructor sets up drills for each group, and rotates around the gym to spot skills, make corrections, and suggest new skills. Within a few classes, most students learn front flips into the pit, improve their handstands and cartwheels, and gain core strength and flexibility. Currently, students range in age from 18 to 50. All are welcome from beginners to competitive gymnasts.

Aerial Silks

Aerial Silks Basics

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center & Dynamite Agility Center

$145.00

A mixed-level class appropriate for beginners through intermediate students, the aerial silks class teaches basic slipknot skills (tying the silks together for stability) to develop the strength needed for basic climbing and foot locks with safety. There is no prerequisite for this class, but patience is needed, as it may take months to develop the strength and technique needed to perform even basic silks skills above floor level. While no experience is necessary, students with experience in yoga, gymnastics, dance, Pilates, and other activities that include flexibility and strength, will develop Silks skills more quickly.

Advanced Aerial Silks/Aerial Dance

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center & Dynamite Agility Center

$145.00

An upper-level class appropriate for advanced beginners through professional students, aerial dance works on continued conditioning, aerial inversions, drops and dives, and choreographic transitions. Variations in students' previous training, terminology, and performance requirements can be equally advantageous and frustrating for dance students who are progressing from low level to upper level skills. Students who have a sequence or "routine" that they are perfecting find this class extremely helpful.

Silks Fitness

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center & Dynamite Agility Center

$145.00

A dynamic class that will challenge students of all fitness levels! Adults who have never been exposed to Silks will enjoy the diversity of this exercise curriculum that also includes yoga and will build strength and flexibility in a non-stop format. This class is perfect for adults seeking a new and engaging workout!

Adult Agility

Location: Dynamite Agility Center

$120.00

Looking for a fun way to get in shape, while improving stamina, dexterity, body awareness, and strength? Then Dynamite's Agility program is for you! You are never too old to swing, climb, jump, and roll your way across blocks, bars, and beams to get from point A to point B. This class is self-paced, based on each person's pushing his or her physical and mental limits and building confidence as a result. To ensure safety, these skills are taught with proper technique using the same progressions and equipment used to train high-level gymnasts. In addition to practicing typical agility skills, students ready for a more challenging curriculum will learn flips safely through progressions starting with our foam pit and trampolines.

Gymnastics Fitness

Location: Dynamite Gymnastics Center

$120.00

Dynamite's latest offering for adults is an amazing way to get fit and have a blast! Gymnastics Fitness is a non-stop class for adults of all ages. Using the gymnastics apparatus in the gym, students will jump, tumble, climb, spin, and flip for a fun-filled cardio workout! Our instructors will ensure student safety while showing you how to get the most out of your class, and learn some new moves along the way.

Preschool

Dynamite is a great place for your child to embark on a lifetime of physical fitness! Our trained preschool instructors work with your child on age-appropriate gymnastics skills which prepare youngsters for so much more than gymnastics. Children participating in the classes without parents (Poppers and Firecrackers) will develop a sense of independence, as they increase physical strength and coordination, improve gross motor and motor planning, and become aware of spatial and perceptual concepts through self-expression. Some additional benefits of our weekly preschool classes include:

  • Developing pride through accomplishments.
  • Accepting new places.
  • Sharing and taking turns.
  • Socializing at early ages.

Many parents question if their child will thrive in the independent preschool program or be more successful in our Parent & Child program. Since Dynamite's preschool classes allow up to six gymnasts per instructor, all students must possess the ability to learn independently. Enrollment in the preschool program is based on four developmental requirements:

Agility is an overall nimbleness of body and mind that integrates isolated movement skills to move efficiently while maintaining control. Silks

An exciting new program that works your core and tones arms, abs, glutes, and legs, Silks is both a sport and an art form. Combining the graceful movements of dance with climbing, stretching, and hanging, Silks challenges both beginners and more experienced aerialists. Silks has become more mainstream thanks to the popularity of Cirque de Soleil and has even attracted a celebrity following: see P!nk's Glitter in the Air video and performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

There are three types of movements learned in Silks: climbing, wrapping, and dropping. Performing aerial acrobatics while hanging may sound challenging, but due to the unique nature of Aerial Silks, students of all levels, ages, and body types can learn to move in space gracefully. Beginning classes teach footholds, basic moves, and poses that are easily learned and executed, while advanced students learns more challenging variations of these moves while elevated at greater heights.

Beginning Silks helps students develop the strength, body awareness, and muscle memory for more difficult skills. Students with a strong core and/or upper-body strength will acclimate to Silks more quickly, and a background in yoga, Pilates, gymnastics, dance, rock-climbing, martial arts, or diving is helpful but not essential.

Students should wear fitted tops, leggings that extend past the knee, and have hair tied back. Jewelry, clothing with zippers and/or rivets, and shoes are not allowed in class. Avoid upper-body work the day before class, and eat at least an hour before the class start time. As an additional resource, some good exercises as a complement to Silks are inclined sit-ups, pull-ups and leg-lifts hanging from a bar, any kind of grip toners for the forearms, and simply hanging from a bar for at least 10 seconds.
